Sideways Revolution (1977–1987) | Part One — Burton

From our friends at Burton:

This is Part 1 of a five-part documentary series covering the people, innovations, and moments that shaped snowboarding over 50 years.

Episode 1 of 50 Years of Snowboarding goes back to the earliest days of Burton and a time when snowboarding is still a fringe obsession, mountains don’t want us, and a small community is determined to change that.

Called a fad and “winter’s worst new sport,” snowboarding is banned from resorts as Jake Burton Carpenter builds boards in a Vermont barn, sells them out of his car, and fights for the right to ride the mountain. What starts with a handful of riders begins to grow into something much bigger.

Sideways Revolution (1977–1987) is the first chapter of 50 Years of Snowboarding, a five-part documentary series exploring the riders, innovations, and moments that shape snowboarding from its earliest days to what comes next.
